I love electric scooters

I've been riding a lot of Lime and Divvy e-scooters this year, and I've been having a lot of fun with them. I love biking and frequently use e-Divvys for transportation, but there's also just something exciting about letting a scooter zip me around while I expend zero energy. I decided I enjoyed e-scooters enough that it made sense for me to buy my own, and I recently purchased a Segway Max G2. I love this thing and I'm glad I have my own electric scooter now.

Like a lot of people, I initially viewed e-scooters as an annoyance and didn't get the appeal when Bird first began unceremoniously dumping theirs on urban sidewalks across America circa 2018. Over time I started to get the appeal of them, especially as a last-mile solution for transit. Nowadays I see a lot of people riding rentable ones, but even more so I see people riding personal ones. It makes me really happy to see people replacing what likely would have been a car trip, with an alternative and better mode of transportation.

My scooter goes up to 20mph, which is more than enough for me (Divvy and Lime scooters top out at 15mph). There are scooters out there that go really fast (like 40mph and beyond) and I have zero desire to ever do that. From a safety perspective I definitely feel like scooters are easier to crash on than bikes (going over an unexpected pothole on a scooter is way more nerving than on a bike) and I always wear a helmet when I ride mine. Some people with faster scooters wear elbow and knee pads.
